Save Toondah for the Birds

Toondah Harbour is the name of the lovely bay near Cleveland where the ferries leave for Stradbroke Island.  For many years, Redlands families, indeed families from all over Brisbane and beyond have come to this park to picnic.  Others walk here daily with their dogs, or just come here for the peace it brings them.

The Walker Group, one of Australia's largest developers, is planning to build a 3,600 dwelling residential and retail development by reclaiming a valued piece of Moreton Bay.  This development is being progressed in a declared Priority Development Area (PDA), a process devised for critical developments of public importance used to bypass the normal avenues for public consultation and local planning.

The affected part of the bay is protected by an international covenant, the Ramsar agreement to which Australia is a signatory, designed to protect wetlands on behalf of the world's dwindling migratory shorebirds.

Our campaign is to stop this unacceptable development, and restore certainty to the ongoing protection of our wildlife, and the Redlands precious environmental ambience.

Secrecy surrounds the details of the 3,600 dwelling marina development.  Given that number of dwellings, and the area of the PDA, it will require a city of high-rise buildings, but no clear visual image has been provided by the developer, or any of the proponents.
