THE CRISAFULLI GOVERNMENT WANTS TO OVERRIDE OUR PLANNING LAWS

TO FAST-TRACK THE OLYMPIC GAMES VENUES

The State Government is proposing to override 15 Queensland laws to clear the path for all their 2032 Olympic Games developments - including the Redlands Whitewater Centreproposed for the special conservation lands of the Birkdale Community Precinct.

These are serious laws like the Planning Act, Environmental Protection Act, Queensland Heritage Act and more.

These laws protect Queensland’s unique history and safeguard irreplaceable parts of our environment and heritage against short-sighted decision making.

By disregarding these laws, and the protections they afford, the State Government is choosing to deny democracy and the rights of communities everywhere to have a voice.

Clearly, we will be unable to protect our precious green spaces, and the creatures that inhabit them. We will be unable to protect our Indigenous and European cultural heritage, and we will be unable to protect our quality of life. There is a real concern that this pattern could be repeated for other projects deemed sufficiently important - an unacceptable precedent.

At the same time, the legislation requires a higher standard of justification and community consultation for renewable energy projects!
